Holguin international airport (HOG)

The Holguin (Frank Pais) international airport is located in the province of Holguin, 13 km southwest of the city of Holguin.

The airport serves the province of Holguin and other area in the Eastern part of Cuba, but primarily the popular resort area of Guardalavaca composed of several all-inclusive resorts located on five beaches: Playa Pesquero, Playa Yuraguanal, Playa Esmeralda, Playa Guardalavaca and Playa Blanca. Other nearby resort areas such as Playa Covarrubias and Cayo Saetia.

Departure Tax of 25 CUC is now included in your travel package since May 1st, 2015. You are not allowed to bring back home your remaining Convertible Pesos (CUC). This currency will be eliminated in a near future. Be advised!

IMPORTANT! It is obligatory to present to the custom officer the second half of thetourist card that was given to you upon arriving to Cuba.

The airport has two terminals: An International Terminal and a small Domestic Terminal. The main international terminal is where most of the airport’s facilities can be found. The terminal building is air-conditioned and non-smoking except in one designated area. There is no jet bridge, movable staircases are used for embarking and disembarking passengers onto the tarmac.

LEAVING THE AIRPORT: For those who cannot wait to be at your hotel, you can buy beer and soft drinks for your transfer from the airport to your hotel. There is a littlesnack-bar near the bus OR a happy vendors with a cart near the buses. Sometimes it is possible to buy these drinks in the bus. The price is 2 CUC for Crystal (beer) and 1 CUC for soft drinks.

Frank Pais was a Cuban revolutionary who campaigned for the overthrow of corrupted Batista’s government. He was the city coordinator of the July 26th Movement, and was a key organizer with Fidel Castro’s rebel forces. Pais was killed in the streets of Santiago de Cuba by the police on July 30th, 1957.
