4:45 PM Upon arrival in Havana, the group will be escorted through an expedited immigration line, then taken to the VIP Lounge in baggage claim.
In case VIP Staff cannot be located in the immigration area, please proceed through immigration
and then look for VIP Staff inside the VIP Lounge in baggage claim.
It is very important to get escorted through customs in order to avoid the regular queue which can take up to 4 hours to clear.
We highly recommend you use the Cuba Travel Corp luggage tags we will send you for all of the bags baggage quickly.
in your group so that VIP airport staff can easily identify all of your luggage.
5:00 PM After you clear customs, you will exit the terminal and your guide will be waiting with Cuba Travel Corporation.
You can choose to exchange money there or at your hotel.
Rates are all regulated by the government so are the same regardless where you exchange.
I recommend exchanging money at your hotel because it is faster than the airport.
There is a counter for currency exchange at the terminal.

Day 2 – Havana (B/L/D)

9:30 AM Historical walking examination of the four main squares in Old Havana (slave market*) with a Professor of Architecture.
Discussion of architecture and history of Cuba but also socio-economic issues today
that can be seen throughout the city with special attention to Afro-Cuban population.
He is the former Director of Master Planning for Havana and collaborator for the Havana Office of the Historian.
11:30 AM Visit the main Jose Marti places in Havana: Born House, Parque Central and La Fragua
12:00 PM Lunch at Los Mercaderes (private paladar restaurant) with academics and researchers at Sociedad Cultural Jose Marti
2:00 PM IF SUNDAY: Departure for Callejón de Hamel.
2:30 PM Visit Callejón de Hamel. Introduction and discussion of performances of Afro-Cuban drumming
traditions important to Santeria practiced here every Sunday.
7:00 PM Dinner at La Guarida (private paladar restaurant). This was the setting for Fresa y Chocolate, the Oscar nomination for best foreign film in 1994.
8:00 PM After dinner, visit to La Cabaña Fort to see the cityscape by night, and witness the cañonazo canon-firing ceremony
that has been held every night for over a century.

8:30 AM Visit Instituto de Historia de Cuba (IHC). Talk about Slavery and 19th Century Cuba; See Diáspora Africana and Jose Marti Collections.
10:30 AM Visit Regla Museum: Afro-Cuban culture, slavery and the Santería religion, with a particular focus on the orisha Elegguá.

2:00 PM Lecture by Dr. C. Esteban Morales Domínguez, Universidad de La Habana, Member of the Academy of Sciences:

10.30AM Visit the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM): Cuban medical system with U.S. Medical Students and Cuban Medical Professor(s).
