The staff pads along the hushed corridors in grey friar robes, their cheerful, expressive faces making it clear they do not belong to a religious order. Everything here radiates serenity, spirituality and devotion, but squarely within a touristic context.

The inner mezzanine gallery is bright and appealing, with lush hanging plants and attractive decorations. The original water cistern was rediscovered during the renovation, providing interesting historical detail; art objects from different eras provide context. The cozy seating areas are as inviting for reading as for sharing a cocktail, served by a merry, costumed friar.

Speaking of cocktails, during his visit, Pope Benedict XVI blessed the welcome cocktail traditionally offered by hotel management to newly-arrived guests.

When morning has broken, guests cross the street to restaurant «La Marina», where breakfast is served. Blue and white checkered tablecloths create a surprisingly Mediterranean setting after the serenity of Hotel Los Frailes.
