Santa Isabel

Hotel Santa Isabel

Star rating:
Guest Rating: 5 (based on 5 reviews)

Address: Baratillo St. number 9 between Obispo and Narciso Lopez Sts., Arm Square. Old Havana

A palace built for the Havana aristocracy (who must have known the first three rules of real estate: location, location, location), this stately palace is on the eastern side of Plaza de Armas, with Havana Bay at her back.

The arched, colonial façade opens into an elegant lobby with crystal chandeliers and antique furniture. This is the real deal, a true, 19th century palace which captures the regal feel of historic Havana. The open courtyard with cheerful bubbling fountain and limestone columns is a perfect alibi to escape from the bustle outside.

The ancient marble staircase must have hosted thousands of feet in almost 2 centuries – will yours be next? They take you to the guestrooms divided over three floors.

A chambermaid says her most unforgettable and lovely memory during the 16 years she has been working at the Santa Isabel was when she was chambermaid for Jimmy Carter, former President of the USA (and repeating hotel guest). «And» she continues: «every day is lovely when I see the guests enjoying the patio, drinking a cocktail and dancing.

Nearby Dining

Old Havana Restaurant: La Mina
Description: Bar Restaurant La Mina is hard to miss for anyone visiting Havana due to its size and prominent location on the city’s oldest Square Plaza de Armas. Food-wise it is hard to get excited about La Mina but the terrace is great for those of us who like to watch people while sipping on a Mojito.
Speciality: Cuban Food
Hours: Daily: 12 noon – 12:00 Midnight
Old Havana Restaurant: El Condado
Description: Reportedly one of Havana’s finest, this elegant restaurant feels like the mansion’s original dining room. A trio enlivens the atmosphere with Cuban music until around 6 p.m.

Old Havana Restaurant: El Templete

This seafood restaurant is one of the better restaurants in Havana.
Speciality: Fish and Seafood
Hours: Daily between 12 noon and 12 midnight

Speciality: Light Meals
Hours: 24 hours
Old Havana Restaurant: El Globo Bar
Description: Invoking the hot-air-balloon spectacle staged by the Count of Santovenia on the property’s rooftop, this bar is located on the hotel portico and is a truly pleasant spot whence to watch the goings-on of the cobbled plaza and savor a specialty cocktail. A less formal establishment than the Condado, the Globo offers more economic Cuban cuisine and snacks.

Hours: 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Old Havana Restaurant: El Cañonazo Bar
